Project type

Technical Drawing - Front Lit Channel letters & Cabinet w/ Push Thru Acrylic Logo

Location

Santa Monica, CA

What looks like a simple channel letter design was a lot more challenging behind the veil. This was a project I personally went back and forth with the city planners and structural engineers at the City of Santa Monica in Los Angeles County, California, to pull the permits and get this sign approved for construction. Anyone who has dealt with pulling city permits knows it's not such a simple task. The frame of the sign took a little bit of ingenuity, working with the existing structure and angles of the building. Since the entire front of the building was a huge glass window, there was no way an electric, channel letter sign could be mounted onto the glass. Although there were cement columns that allowed for a frame to support the channel letters as an "Architectural Enhancement." The project itself took 8 months, 7 of those months were the permitting process. But, working with the client and with the city, I was determined to give the customer striking signage for his business, while cooperating with the city and building requirements. Here is the final product and the technical drawings that were approved.
